Kostea Andreenko Receives Third GNAC Weekly Award of 2019

WINTHROP, Mass. – For his performance in three matches over the past week, sophomore Kostea Andreenko (Marstons Mills, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Volleyball Rookie of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

Andreenko appeared in nine sets during the week, averaging 2.22 kills, 0.33 service aces, and 1.00 blocks per set while posting an impressive .429 hitting percentage. Last Tuesday, in two sets during Regis' 3-0 victory at Bard, he was a perfect 7-for-7 in attack attempts and earned five total blocks.

Saturday, he helped the Pride stay competitive with Lasell by collecting seven kills, three total blocks, and two digs against the Lasers. Later that day against Emmanuel, Andreenko finished with six kills and two service aces.

Through Saturday, Andreenko is second in the GNAC in both hitting percentage at .335 and blocks per set at 0.87. He is also tied for first on the Pride with 16 service aces and second on the squad with 92 total kills.

This is the third time Andreenko has received one of the conference's weekly awards this season. Previously, he was named Defensive Player of the Week on Feb. 25 and Rookie of the Week on March 4.

Regis College (7-9, 1-5 GNAC) plays five of its next seven matches at home, starting Tuesday, March 19, at 7 p.m. against conference foe Wentworth. The Pride play their final non-conference match of the regular season at home Thursday, March 21, against Dean College, also beginning at 7 p.m.
