Andreenko Receives GNAC Honor for Second Straight Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – After leading Regis College to its first Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory of the 2019 season last Wednesday at Colby-Sawyer, sophomore Kostea Andreenko (Marstons Mills, Mass.) has been named the GNAC Men's Volleyball Rookie of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

Andreenko tied for the team lead with 12 kills against the Chargers, plus he committed only one attack error in 17 attempts for a .647 hitting percentage, the highest percentage by a Regis player this season with at least 12 kills. In addition, he picked up a service ace, a dig, and four total blocks to help the Pride sweep the Chargers.

For the season, Andreenko leads the team with 31 total blocks and a .314 hitting percentage, currently placing him third in the GNAC in blocks per set (0.84) and tied for fourth in the league in hitting percentage. In addition, he is second on the Pride in total kills with 72 and third on the team in service aces with 13.

This is the second straight week Andreenko has received a GNAC weekly award, as he previously won Defensive Player of the Week honors Feb. 25. He is currently in his first season of collegiate volleyball after transferring to Regis from Cape Cod Community College.

Regis (6-7, 1-3 GNAC) returns to action next Tuesday, March 12, at Bard starting at 7 p.m. The Pride return to Higgins Court for a conference tri-match involving Lasell and Emmanuel next Saturday, March 16, beginning at 10 a.m.
