Regis Men’s Volleyball Loses Road Match at #10 Endicott

BEVERLY, Mass. – Regis College lost to nationally ranked Endicott College, 3-0 (25-14, 25-17, 25-9), Friday night in a non-conference men's collegiate volleyball match at MacDonald Gymnasium.

Drew Beimel (Redondo Beach, Calif.) led the Pride offensively with six kills, with Matt Ferrara (Haverhill, Mass.) and Fernando Gomez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) finishing with four kills apiece. Defensively, Zabdiel Frias (Trujillo Alto, Puerto Rico) collected six digs to lead Regis.

Endicott (4-2), ranked 10th in this week's AVCA Division III Coaches' Poll, scored five of the first six points of the match, led by Gabe Felicetti with two kills and a solo block. After kills by Inelson Alves (Brockton, Mass.) and Beimel closed the Regis deficit to 7-5, the Gulls went on a 7-1 scoring run, led by two service aces from Bryn Lipton. Endicott closed out the first set with a 7-2 scoring run, paced by Chad Riorden with two service aces and Jacob Newman with a kill and two blocks.

Regis raced out to a 4-1 lead in the second set, led by Kostea Andreenko (Marstons Mills, Mass.) with a kill and a block, but the Gulls quickly tied the set with three straight points, featuring a kill and an ace by Lipton. After a kill by Ferrara gave the Pride a 10-9 lead, Endicott went on an 8-1 scoring run, led by Jeremy Doski with three kills and a block. Doski later earned consecutive service aces to extend the Gull lead to 23-14, and then the home team clinched the second set on two Regis service errors.

The Gulls jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the third set, followed by a 5-1 scoring run to extend their lead into double digits. Endicott finished off the set and the match with a 12-4 scoring run, capped by kills from Lipton and Nick Hayes.

Lipton led the Gulls with eight kills, a .417 hitting percentage, four service aces, and three defensive digs. As a team, Endicott hit .370 and collected 13 service aces while making only 10 service errors, plus the squad did not allow Regis to earn a service ace throughout the match.

Regis (4-5) is right back in action tomorrow, Feb. 16, traveling to Providence, R.I., to face Dean College in a neutral-site match hosted by Johnson & Wales University starting at 12 p.m.
