Men's Volleyball Swept at Johnson & Wales (RI)

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Regis (Mass.) men's volleyball team had hoped to get back on track but were never able to find its groove in a 25-14, 25-20, 25-20 loss at Johnson & Wales (RI) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Thursday night at the Wildcat Center.

Jeff Ramos (Pawtucket, R.I.) and Drew Beimel (Redondo Beach, Calif.) both had six kills to lead the Pride (6-14, 1-8 GNAC) who hit at a .118 clip for the match. Wade Robidoux (Granby, Mass.) hit at a team-best .273 clip (5-2-11) with Chris Fitta (Warwick, R.I.) posting six digs.

For the Wildcats (13-12, 5-3 GNAC), Sanjae Holloway delivered a match-high 12 kills with Alex Seda recording 13 digs and Zach Turner adding three kills and three blocks.

The Pride trailed early in the opening set and never recovered. Donovan Kelley and Matt LaVasseur got in on back-to-back blocks to open up a 4-1 lead for JWU, one that continued to grow until Regis called for time trailing 19-7.

Set two saw the Pride make a game of it until midway through the frame. Inelson Alves (Brockton, Mass.) helped his team to an early 3-1 lead with one of his four kills and Regis trailed just 12-10. The wheels would come off at that point as five straight JWU points later forced a Pride timeout. The Wildcats would pace to the win and the commanding two-set lead.

Regis trailed early in set three but nearly pushed the match to a fourth set after eight straight points shaved a 19-10 JWU lead down to one point. The Pride took full advantage of a series of Wildcat errors but Nick Bibetto stemmed the tide with back-to-back kills and led his team to the sweep.

Regis has one day off before returning to the road for a GNAC trimatch versus Lasell and Emmanuel this Saturday. The Wildcats are on the road Saturday as well to take on Mount Ida and Wentworth.
