Men's Volleyball Completes Season Sweep of Pine Manor

WESTON, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) men's volleyball team completed the season sweep of Pine Manor College on Wednesday evening, defeating the Gators in straight sets in non-conference action at Higgins Court. Set scores were 25-9, 25-17, 25-16.

With the win, the Pride improves to 6-9 on the season, while the Gators drop to 1-11.

The Pride opened the match on fire, jumping out to an 11-2 lead thanks in part to four service aces from senior middle Brett Krahl (Santa Clarita, Calif.) to take early control of the match. The Pride offense continued to dominate the remainder of the first set, picking up 17 kills and an attack percentage of .419 to cruise to the 25-9 set win. Junior Drew Beimel (Redondo Beach, Calif.) led all players in the set with seven kills coming on just eight attack attempts.

The second set looked much different than the first, but a big run by the Pride helped the hosts secure a 2-0 lead. The Gators and Pride traded blows in the early going, as the set featured 10 ties and six lead changes. With the Pride ahead 18-16 in the waning moments of the set, a pair of kills from freshman Shawn Gamble (Cranston, R.I.) and three Pine Manor attack errors helped the Pride rattle off six straight points to take a 24-16 lead. Two plays later, Beimel clinched the set with another kill.

Pine Manor would threaten in the third set, jumping out to an early 4-2 lead, but the Pride would recover. A 6-1 run at the midway point of the set to run the Pride's lead from 15-12 to 21-13 all but wrapped up the sweep for Regis. The match would be clinched on a few minutes later on a block by freshman Gueincy Clodomir (Pembroke Park, Fla.).

Beimel's 13 kills, along with 12 from senior Wade Robidoux (Granby, Mass.) led the charge offensively for the Pride. Sophomore Derick Speight (Clinton, Md.) was the offensive leader for the Gators, recording six kills in the loss.

The Pride will be back in action on Saturday with a Great Northeast Athletic Conference tri-match against Wentworth and the hosts from Rivier University.
