Men's Volleyball Upended In Sweep At Emerson

BOSTON - Chris Fitta (Warwick, R.I.) had a team-high 14 digs, Jeff Ramos (Pawtucket, R.I.) added 10 more to go along with seven kills but it wasn't enough as the Regis (Mass.) men's volleyball team suffered a sweep at the hands of Emerson College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Thursday at the Bobbi Brown and Steven Plofker Gym. Set scores were 25-20, 25-18, 25-16.

Drew Beimel (Redondo Beach, Calif.) added seven kills and seven digs for the Pride (4-8, 1-3 GNAC) who had a shot at pulling off a first set win. Neither team led by more than a point until Stig Regan's (Kailua, O'ahu) block, one of his team-high three for the night, on a Brett Krahl (Santa Clarita, Calif.) attack put the Lions up 10-8. The Pride rallied to tie the score then led 16-15 off a Beimel kill. Emerson (9-3, 2-1 GNAC) would win seven of the next eight points around a pair of Regis timeouts to grab a foothold of the set.

Set two saw the Lions take a tie score and run off four straight points to go up 14-10. Krahl ended a run with a kill but another Regan block extended the lead to 17-12. The Pride never got closer than four points as Emerson cruised to the two-set lead.

Unlike the first two sets, the Lions led from the start with a pair of kills from Diego Garcia (Honolulu, O'ahu) and another from Nick Rusk (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) put their team up 8-4. Rusk would finish the match with a match-high 12 kills with Garcia adding six kills and seven digs. The Pride responded and took its first lead at 12-11 off an Emerson setting error. The Lions had a response of their own, running off seven unanswered points to seemingly seal the win.

Carl D'Aguiar (Tujunga, Calif.) added a match-high 19 digs for the Lions.

The Pride will have nearly two weeks off before retaking the court on Tuesday, Mar. 13 with a home match against Emmanuel at 7:00 p.m. The Lions are next in action with a GNAC trimatch on Saturday, Mar. 17 against Emmanuel and Wentworth.
