Men's Volleyball Dominant In Sweep of Purchase

PURCHASE, N.Y. - Drew Beimel (Redondo Beach, Calif.) hit at a .412 clip for a match-high 12 kills to help the Regis (Mass.) men's volleyball team to its third win in four matches, a 25-10, 25-14, 25-20 sweep at Purchase College on Wednesday night.

Brett Krahl (Santa Clarita, Calif.) added 10 kills and a match-high three blocks for the Pride who improved to 3-5 on the season. The Panthers (1-5) were led by Andreo Ontiniano's seven kills and seven digs.

Regis dominated from start to finish including scoring the first 10 points of the opening set, with Krahl recording a pair of kills, an assist and a block in the run. Beimel later recorded a block and got in on another with Shawn Gamble (Cranston, R.I.) to help push the lead to 12 points with the Pride eventually racing to the first-set win.

Set two saw Regis capitalize on a handful of early Panther hitting errors and open up a 9-2 lead. Inelson Alves' (Brockton, Mass.) kill pushed the lead to double digits at 19-9 and the Pride coasted from there.

Regis never trailed in set three but couldn't shake the Panthers in what turned out to be the closest set of the evening. Regis opened up a 10-4 lead but Purchase would hang around after kills from Ontiniano and Luke Kubisch. Purchase cut the lead to 20-18 but down the stretch it was a kill from Beimel and a match-clinching ace from Krahl that completed the sweep.

The Pride plays its first-ever GNAC match this Saturday, Feb. 24, competing at Mount Ida (10:00 a.m.) in a tri-match with No. 14 Wentworth (12:00 p.m.).
