Men's Volleyball Notches First Win With Four-Set Victory Over Dean

WESTON, Mass. - Brett Krahl (Santa Clarita, Calif.) delivered a season-high 15 kills to go along with five blocks and six aces and the Regis (Mass.) men's volleyball team got notched its first victory with a 25-23, 23-25, 25-18, 25-16 win over Dean, Wednesday night at Higgins Court.

Krahl hit at a scorching .500 clip with Jeff Ramos (Pawtucket, R.I.) and Gueincy Clodomir (Pembroke Park, Fla.) adding nine and eight kills, respectively, for a well-balanced Pride (1-4) attack.

Joel Carmona (Lawrence, Mass.) recorded a match-high 17 kills for the Bulldogs (4-3) to go along with nine digs. Doindre Gomes (Fairhaven, Mass.) added 15 kills and six digs.

Regis looked sharp to open the match running off eight straight points early in the set to take an 11-4 lead. The advantage would swell to 18-8 off a Krahl kill but Dean would make a game of it down the stretch. A Gomes block and kill helped staved off four set points but Shawn Gamble (Cranston, R.I.) clinched the win with a kill.

Set two saw the Bulldogs pull away late to even the match. The set was tight throughout but a Gomes kill gave his team some slight breathing room at 20-18. Back-to-back kills from Ramos helped the Pride retake the lead at 21-20 but down the stretch it was a pair of kills from Carmona that clinched the set for Dean.

Regis would take control in winning sets three and four to get the win. The Pride won nine of the final 12 points in set three, breaking open a close contest to win going away. Regis would lead from start to finish in set four. Four quick points, including a service ace from Jayson Vega (Ponce, Puerto Rico), led to a 20-13 lead and the Pride never looked back.

Regis retakes the court Saturday, Feb. 17 for its first tri-match of the season at Eastern Nazarene with Pine Manor. The Bulldogs are next in action Monday, Feb. 19 at Johnson & Wales (RI).
