Men's Volleyball Dominates Sage In Tri-Match Opener

WESTON, Mass.Sean Bisnett (Oxnard, Calif.) and Marcos Aguirre (Norwalk, Calif.) led a hot hitting attack as the Regis (Mass.) men's volleyball team won its second straight match with a dominant 25-23, 25-18, 25-21 sweep of Sage College in the first of two matches Saturday at Higgins Court. The Pride later face New Jersey College at 4:00 p.m. with Sage taking on NJCU at 2:00 p.m.

The win improves the Pride to 2-4 while the Gators drop to 4-3.

Bisnett and Aguirre led the Pride attack, recording 12 and 10 kills respectively. Regis as a team hit at an impressive .400 clip with Bisnett hitting a team-high .458 (12-1-24).

Ryan Guyton (Lockport, N.Y.) posted a match-high 17 kills (17-1-32) with Casey Fitzpatrick (Haverhill, Mass.) adding nine digs, also a match best.

Set one proved to be the most competitive of the match. Neither squad led by more than two points as the Gators carried a late 20-18 lead. Back-to-back kills from Wade Robidoux (Agawam, Mass.) and Aguirre tied the set with a pair of kills and the two teams traded points down the stretch. Bisnett would seal the win with a kill and the Pride struck first with the opening set win.

Regis never trailed in set two in taking a two-set lead. The Pride closed the frame on a 7-3 run to finish the set highlighted by a pair of late kills from Drew Beimel (Redondo Beach, Calif.). Regis jumped out early in set three, opening up a 10-4 lead before holding on for the win.

Brett Krahl (Santa Clarita, Calif.) added five kills and three blocks with Beimel delivering a five kill, five dig effort.
