CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Regis College sophomore Joe Coye (Plaistow, N.H.) registered a game-high 13 kills swinging a career-best .550 from the floor to lead the Pride to a 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-20) decision over Lesley University in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) men's volleyball action tonight at Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols. The win pushes Regis to 10-8 on the year and an even 4-4 in conference play while the Lynx fall to 0-16 overall and 0-9 in the NECC.
Coye's performance was complimented by freshman Sean Bisnett (Oxnard, Calif.) who knocked down 12 kills to go with his nine digs. Bisnett was especially dangerous with his serve as he connected on a game-high six aces. Fellow freshman Jon Fuentes (Downey, Calif.) finished with seven kills and six digs while first year setter Joe Hanrahan (Coventry, R.I.) led all players with 33 assists.
Freshman Tyler Burns (Newtown, Pa.) led the Lynx attack with 11 kills on .171 hitting to go with eight digs. Burns now has three straight matches with double-figure kill totals. Sophomore C.J. Sutton (Billerica, Mass.) led all players with ten digs while freshman setter Mitchel Ulacco (Winchester, Mass.) doled out 18 assists. Senior Melvin Morales (Chelsea, Mass.) finished with five kills while swinging .333 and collecting three digs. Collectively, the Lynx swung a season-high .139 from the floor.
An Aqib Shah (Watertown, Mass.) kill gave the Lynx a 7-5 lead early in the first set, but the Pride would rally behind Bisnett's serve as the visitors rattled off nine straight points to take a 14-7 edge. Regis would not trail again in the set as they rolled to the 25-16 opening set victory. Bisnett tallied five kills in the set while Burns led the Lynx with four.
The visitors would jump out to an 8-3 advantage to start the second, but Lesley would score seven of the next ten points to knot the set at 10-10. Ulacco led the attack with two kills during the streak while Burns and Shah also picked up kills. Tied at 12-12, Bisnett's serve once again paced a Regis streak as the Pride went on a 6-0 run to take an 18-12 lead. Bisnett connected for two of his six aces during the spurt as Regis would go on to take set two, 25-16. The Pride swung an impressive .407 in the set.
Regis would take a 12-7 lead to start the third before Lesley went on a 7-0 run to take their first lead since the first set. Trailing 17-16, the Pride received another timely run fueled by Bisnett's serve as they scored five straight to jump back ahead 21-17 before taking the third 25-20 and the match 3-0.
Regis returns to conference play on Wednesday as they host Daniel Webster College at 7:00p in Weston, Mass.
