PRIDE SPIKE MOUNT IDA FOR SECOND STRAIGHT WIN

NEWTON, Mass. – Regis College matched its win total from a season ago with a 3-1 victory on the road at Mount Ida College on Wednesday night in men's volleyball action. The Pride (2-3) used set scores of 25-21, 25-16, 20-25, and 25-23 in the win over the Mustangs (2-4).

Freshman Sean Bisnett (Oxnard, Calif.) led the Pride with ten kills and ten digs.

Mount Ida sophomore Dennis Miranda (Hialeah, Fla.) led all players with 12 kills and his teammate and classmate Brady Rodriguez (Longwood, Fla.) registered 32 assists in a losing effort.

Neither team could grab a substantial lead in the fourth set, as the teams traded points nearly the entire game. It wasn't until a kill by Zach Sindoni (Haverhill, Mass.) and an attacking error by the Mustangs made it 17-15 Pride that either team led by more than a point.

The Mustangs fought back to tie the game at 18, but two errors and a service ace from Bisnett gave the visitors a 23-20 lead. Miranda converted a kill to bring Mount Ida within a point, 24-23, but sophomore Joe Coye (Plaistow, N.H.) converted his ninth kill of the night to seal the victory for Regis.

Sindoni had 15 assists in Regis's two-setter system, pairing with Joe Hanrahan (Coventry, R.I.), who set up 19 points. Sindoni also hit for seven kills and had five digs, as well as a solo block and four assisted blocks. Coye made just two errors on 15 attempts for a .467 hitting percentage in the game, and he had the same blocking stat-line as Sindoni.

Ahead 13-10 in the third set, Mount Ida (2-4) rattled off six straight points, including two kills by James Ames (West Hartford, Conn.) to take a commanding lead, then held off a 7-2 run and rode two Nick Melillo (North Haven, Conn.) kills to the victory to get back into the match after the first two sets slipped away.

Ames had 8 kills in the match and he and Miranda each tallied seven digs. Sophomore Jimmy Wessel (DeKalb, Ill.) had nine digs to lead the Mustangs, while Rodriguez served three aces.

Regis returns home for a conference match against Elms on February 5th at 7:00 pm.
