REGIS NETS FIRST WIN OF SEASON AT JWU TOURNEY

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Regis College split a pair of matches on the second day of the Johnson & Wales (R.I.) Tournament on Saturday afternoon to move to 1-3 on the season. The Pride fell to host JWU, 3-1 in their opening game before picking up their first win of the year over Keuka, 3-0.

The Pride were led by freshman Zach Sindoni (Haverhill, Mass.), who was selected to the All-Tournament Team as a result of his standout play over the weekend.

Regis dropped a 3-1 decision to the Wildcats via set scores of 19-25, 19-25, 25-23, and 16-25. Sindoni and freshman outside hitter Sean Bisnett (Oxnard, Calif.) combined for 19 kills for Regis, while classmate Jon Fuentes (Downey, Calif.) and sophomore middle blocker Joe Coye (Plaistow, N.H.) had seven kills apiece. 

Sindoni, who maintained a hitting percentage of .500 in the match, added 18 assists and three service aces for Regis, while Bisnett pitched in with a team-high eight digs and one block assist. 

The Pride bested Keuka in their second match of the day via set scores of 25-14, 27-25, and 27-25. Once again, the duo of Sindoni and Bisnett proved to be a crucial component, as they combined for 19 kills in the second straight match.

Sindoni, who hit .692 in the match, had 16 assists, one service ace, five digs, and two block assists to go along with his team-high 10 kills in the victory. Bisnett, who hit .421 for the Pride, added four digs. 

Fuentes had a match-high eight digs and two block assists to go along with four kills for Regis, while Coye added two kills and a team-high four blocks (1 BS, 3 BA). Freshman Bryan Camilo (Lawrence, Mass.) also played well and provided six kills, two assists, and two digs, as did rookie setter Joe Hanrahan (Coventry, R.I.), who had 12 assists and four digs. 

The Pride will return to action on Wednesday with a non-conference match at Mount Ida scheduled for 6 p.m.
