EAGLES SOAR PAST PRIDE 3-0

WESTON, Mass.- The Regis College men's volleyball team fell Wednesday night at the Teresa Higgins Gymnasium to Daniel Webster College by the score of 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-16). The loss moves the Pride to 1-15 overall on the year, while the Eagles move to 12-4 overall on the season.

In the first set the Eagles opened with a service ace from Chris Shannon (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) to tally the first points of the match. Daniel Webster tallied the next three points of the match to go up by as many as three. Pride junior Andrew Carroll (Natick, Mass.) curtailed the Eagles offense by spiking a well placed hit from David Amicangioli (Belmont, Mass.) to make the score 5-1. Later in the set Daniel Webster found an offensive groove to put the Eagles up by as many as nine. Si Pan Leong (Boston, Mass.) killed the ball to move the Pride tally up to 13. Carroll added another quick kill before the Pride fell 25-15 in the first set.

The second set opened with and even 1-1 tally from both squads. Daniel Webster received a pair of service aces from Kyle Clement (Weymouth, Mass.) to give the Eagles an advantage at 6-1. Clement continued to excel as he helped setup Eric Smith (Clay, N.Y.) with kill to put DWC up 17-9. Amicangioli chipped in for the Pride grabbing a service ace to make the score 21-12. Two plays later Alex Caliendo (Windsor, Conn.) hit a well place ball past the Eagles defense to jump start the Pride offense. The Pride would go on a seven point run that was fueled by the strong play of Leong who grabbed two service aces. The set ended in the Eagles favor on a Pride error, giving DWC the second win 25-19.

The Pride opened the third set with a 3-0 lead that was started by the strong serving skills of Amicangioli. The Eagles did not take long to respond by quickly tallying three straight service aces to regain the lead 4-3. Regis battled back tying the set at 5-5 on ball handling error. Drew Wilder (Brockton, Mass.) gave the Pride its largest lead of the contest by serving two lofting aces allowing the Pride to go up 7-5. Both teams would go point for point tying the set at 14 apiece. DWC finally found a groove on offense going up by four on a tipped floater from Clement. The Eagles continued to keep the pressure up by going on a 7-0 run to cap the win at 25-16.

Stat leaders for the Eagles included Smith and Shannon who led the team in kills by tallying nine apiece. Clement and Smith combined to dish out 26 assists on the game. Regis was led by Andrew Carroll who had a team high in kills with seven. Amicangioli was the main setup man for the Pride by grabbing a team high 15 assists.

Regis returns to action Saturday when the team travels to Chicopee, Massachusetts to play a tri-match against host Elms College and Wentworth Institute of Technology. The Eagles return to action Saturday when they take on Endicott College in NECC action at 3:30 p.m.
