FALCONS HAND PRIDE 3-0 SETBACK

WESTON, Mass. – Albertus Magnus used set scores of 25-19 followed by matching scores of 25-15 in sets two and three to defeat Regis College, 3-0, on Monday night in non-conference men's volleyball action. The Pride drops to 1-12 on the season, while the Falcons improve to 11-3. Andrew Carroll (Natick, Mass.) led the Pride with five kills and Chris Tran (Quincy, Mass.) notched a match-high 14 digs in the setback.

Regis grabbed an early 6-3 lead in the opening set, capped off by a Drew Wilder (Brockton, Mass.) service ace. Albertus Magnus clawed their way back into the game, taking a 10-8 lead following a pair of Regis errors, before the Pride grabbed an 11-10 lead on a pair of Falcons errors. The teams traded points before AMC took a 16-13 lead. Another Falcon error made it an 18-16 game late, but the Falcons closed out the opening set on a 7-3 run as Brendan Charamut (Southington, Conn.) served on five straight points to seal the victory.

Albertus Magnus took its turn grabbing an early 6-2 lead in the second set, and this time the Pride fought back, as Drew Wilder took a feed from David Amicangioli (Belmont, Mass.) and posted a kill that made it only a 7-6 deficit. Albertus Magnus took back control of the set by grabbing a 20-12 lead, prompting a Regis timeout. Carlos Torres (Maspeth, N.Y.) posted a pair of kills and Douglas DeSousa (Danbury, Conn.) added a service ace to help the Falcons take game two, 25-15.

Set three was much the same as AMC took a 6-2 lead before Regis clawed back to tie it at eight on an attack error by the Falcons. The teams traded points, and were tied as late as 11, but Albertus Magnus used a 7-0 run to grab an 18-11 lead and distance themselves from the Pride. The Falcons closed out game three, 25-15, on a kill by DeSousa.

Andrew Carroll led the Pride with five kills and also posted eight digs. Drew Wilder posted a pair of kills, while Markenson Telfort (Revere, Mass.), Brandon Yarrell-Bacote (Bronx, N.Y.) and Doug Dunbar (Danvers, Mass.) also added kills. David Amicangioli paced the offense with 10 assists, while Chris Tran had a match-high 14 digs.

The Falcons' Carlos Torres, Glenn Johnson (Newington, Conn.), and Brendan Charamut posted eight kills apiece, while the trio combined for 19 digs. Douglas DeSousa dished out 17 assists and Torres added eight of his own. Chris Pfeffer (Torrington, Conn.) added four kills and six digs. DeSousa also recorded three service aces.

The Crimson and Gold return to action on Thursday night when the Pride travels to Lesley University for an NECC matchup at 8:00 p.m. Albertus Magnus takes on Emerson College on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
