LYNX CLAW PAST REGIS, 3-0

WESTON, Mass. – Lesley University picked up its first win of the season with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-16) victory over host Regis College on Thursday night in New England Collegiate College men's volleyball action in Weston, Mass. The Pride drops to 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the NECC while Lesley improves to 1-4 and 1-1 in league play. David Amicangioli (Arlington, Mass.) posted eight kills to lead the Pride.

In the first set, Lesley jumped out to a quick 8-2 lead on back-to-back service aces by Melvin Morales (Chelsea, Mass.), prompting a Regis timeout. Following a Brandon Yarrell-Bacote (Bronx, N.Y.) kill that made it 10-3, Lesley's Brian Hicks (Lowell, Mass.) served on six straight points, including another Lynx service ace, to stretch the Lesley lead out to 16-4. Regis put together a late surge as Drew Wilder (Brockton, Mass.) and Amicangioli registered kills, but the Lynx held on for a 25-12 win in the first set.

Set two started much the same as the Lynx grabbed a 6-0 lead before another Amicangioli kill gave the Pride service back. Lesley responded with four straight points, however the Pride had a run of their own in them, as Regis went on a 10-4 run to make it a 15-12 game on a Lynx blocking error. Wilder and Amicangioli had back-to-back kills to make it 17-14, but Lesley ended the set on an 8-3 run of its own to secure the win.

The Pride came out in set three and again made it a very close match. Trailing 10-4, Regis rattled off a 7-2 run – including back-to-back service aces from Chris Tran (Quincy, Mass.) - to make it 12-11, and force a Lesley timeout. The Lynx responded to the break in action, taking a commanding 23-16 lead by using an 11-5 run to force a Regis timeout. Lesley ended the match with two quick points to grab its first win of the season, 3-0.

Regis was paced by eight kills and a team-high seven digs from David Amicangioli. Si Pan Leong (Boston, Mass.) and Drew Wilder each had three kills while Andrew Carroll (Natick, Mass.) helped set up the offense with 14 assists while also adding six digs.

Lesley's Max Hoevenaar (Orlando, Fla.) and Brian Hicks tallied nine kills apiece to lead Lesley. Christian Domingo (Los Angeles, Calif.) had six kills and a match-high 14 digs, while Melvin Morales had 24 assists to go along with four service aces. Hoevenaar also made an impact on defense with four solo blocks and four block assists.

The Crimson and Gold return to action on Saturday afternoon when the Pride travel to Daniel Webster for a 4:00 p.m. NECC matchup with the Eagles. Lesley will take on Lasell College on February 16th at 7:00 p.m.
