WILDER'S FOUR KILLS NOT ENOUGH IN 3-0 SETBACK

WILDER'S FOUR KILLS NOT ENOUGH IN 3-0 SETBACK

WESTON, Mass. – Emerson College defeated Regis College 3-0 (25-10, 25-10, 25-15) on Saturday afternoon in men's volleyball action in Weston, Mass. Regis drops to 0-2 this year while the Lions pick up their first win of the season and improve to 1-0. Drew Wilder (Brockton, Mass.) posted four kills to lead the Pride.

Emerson jumped out to an early 5-2 lead before Andrew Carroll (Natick, Mass.) registered his first kill of the match to make it a 5-3 game. Si Pan Leong (Boston, Mass.) and Wilder would add kills in the opening set, but the Lions were too much, as Emerson grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-10 win.

The Lions again took the early advantage as a Jake Bennett (Hull, Mass.) service ace gave the Lions a 7-3 lead. Kills from Drew Wilder and David Amicangioli (Arlington, Mass.) made it only a 9-5 deficit, but that would be as close as the Pride would get as Emerson took set two by a matching score of 25-10.

The Pride made set three much more interesting as back-to-back kills by Wilder made it a 17-10 game halfway through the set. Following a small run by the Lions, Regis was able to make it a 24-15 match on a pair of service aces by Si Pan Leong, but it was too little too late as a Pride service error gave Emerson the final point of the match and sent the Lions home with a 3-0 win.

Drew Wilder led the Pride with four kills while Andrew Carroll added three of his own to go with a solo block. David Amicangioli had two kills, six assists, and a team-high five digs in the setback. Si Pan Leaong had three service aces to go with a pair of kills and three digs. Chris Tran (Quincy, Mass.) also added four digs.

The Lions were led by 10 kills from Nadav Swarttz (Newton, Mass.) and nine kills from Conor Burton (Valencia, Calif.). Stephen Selnick (Cheshire, Conn.) handed out a match-high 28 assists, while Jake Benett posted five service aces. Eric Doherty (Millis, Mass.) led the Lions with five digs.

Regis continues the search for its first win of the season on Thursday when the Pride hosts Lesley University in a 7:00 p.m. NECC matchup. Emerson takes on the same Lynx on Monday night at 8:00 p.m.
