Pride Men’s Track & Field Finishes Third at GNACs

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's track and field team finished in third place at a highly-competitive Great Northeast Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships Sunday afternoon at Regis Stadium.

Daniel LaFlamme (Watertown, Conn.) led the Pride with two individual GNAC victories, setting a school record and qualifying for the New England Championships in the shot put with a top throw of 13.48 meters (44' 2.75"). He also won the discus throw with a top mark of 39.28 meters (128' 10"), plus he qualified for the New England Championships in the hammer throw, finishing second in the GNAC with a school-record toss of 45.97 meters (150' 10").

Mark Dumas (Woodbridge, Conn.) finished second in the GNAC in the shot put at 12.41 meters (40" 8.75"), while Alex Hlywa (Southbury, Conn.) ended up fourth with a top mark of 11.54 meters. Cole Anderson (Falmouth, Maine) finished fifth in both the shot put at 10.83 meters (35' 6.5") and in the hammer throw at 38.34 meters (125' 9").

Matthew Malone (West Roxbury, Mass.) won the GNAC title in the 110 meter high hurdles, qualifying for the finals with a time of 16.16 seconds, and then crossing the finish line second overall with a time of 16.48 seconds. Malone also finished third among GNAC competitors in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:02.46.

Also on the track, Nicholas Pastore (Norwood, Mass.) qualified for the finals of the 100 meter dash with a preliminary time of 11.68 seconds, ending up second in the GNAC. He was also third in the league in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.08 seconds.

In the 800 meter run, Christian Hendricks (Edgewater, Md.) finished third in the GNAC with a time of 2:04.87, followed by Jovan Sematimba (Burlington, Mass.) in fifth place in the league at 2:08.82. Sematimba was also second in the GNAC in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:21.17.

Saturday night, Shane Romanchick (Trumbull, Conn.) finished in fifth among GNAC runners in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 37:38.95. Later that night, Sematimba and Hendricks joined Gustavo Novelle-Ruddy (Boston, Mass.) and Matt Sowden (Scituate, R.I.) in the 4x800 meter relay, finishing second within the GNAC at 9:02.06.

Sunday, the team of Angel Pagan-Rodriguez (Bayamon, Puerto Rico), Sowden, Malone, and Pastore finished third in the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 47.67. In the final event of the meet, the 4x400 meter relay, the quartet of Pastore, Hendricks, Sowden, and Sematimba posted a time of 3:47.29.

As a team, Regis finished in third place in the GNAC team standings with 112.5 points. Colby-Sawyer won the GNAC Men's Track and Field Team Championship with 202.5 points, followed by Saint Joseph's College with 149.

Regis will send representatives to Williamstown, Mass., for the Division III New England Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Williams College next weekend, May 3-4.
