HOOKSETT, N.H. – The Regis College men's track and field team competed against some of the top Division II and Division III schools in the region Saturday at the Penmen Relays, hosted by Southern New Hampshire University at Penmen Stadium.
Daniel LaFlamme (Watertown, Conn.) broke the school record in the shot put on his first attempt, finishing in ninth place among 59 competitors with a mark of 13.39 meters (43' 11.25"), 0.09 meters further than the previous record set six years ago. He also finished in 10th place in the hammer throw with a top effort of 41.86 meters (137' 4").
On the track, Jovan Sematimba (Burlington, Mass.) broke the school record in the one mile run he set at this meet last year, winning his section and finishing 13th overall with a time of 4:44.84. Sematimba also won his heat of the 400 meter dash in 56.41 seconds, while Nicholas Pastore (Norwood, Mass.) finished 18th overall in 52.88 seconds and Christian Hendricks (Edgewater, Md.) ended up in 25th place at 53.41 seconds.
Hendricks also finished in 18th place in the 800 meter run with a personal-best time of 2:03.64, almost three full seconds faster than his mark last Friday in the Regis Spring Classic. In the 200 meter dash, Pastore won his heat and finished 13th overall with a time of 23.55 seconds, 0.24 seconds quicker than his mark last weekend.
As a team, the Pride were one of 23 teams to earn at least one point during the competition. Eastern Connecticut State finished first with 86 points, just ahead of second place Worcester State with 83 points.
Regis will head to Mansfield, Conn., for its final regular season meet of the year, as the Pride will participate in the Eastern Connecticut State University Invitational next Friday, April 19, starting at 2 p.m.
