Regis Men’s Track and Field Opens Indoor Season

ROXBURY, Mass. – Three top-10 finishes, including a school record, highlighted the first meet of the 2018-19 season for the Regis College men's track and field team, as the Pride participated in the UMass Boston Indoor Opener Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.

Sophomore Sean Toomey (Salem, N.H.) broke the school record in the 1000 meter run by a full second, finishing in eighth place in the event with a time of 2:44.84. He also anchored the 4x400 meter relay, teaming with Nicholas Pastore, Christian Hendricks (Edgewater, Md.), and Nazih Lewis for an overall time of 3:54.67.

Pastore enjoyed a strong showing in his first collegiate meet, finishing in a tie for 30th place in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.41 seconds. He also ended up in 40th place in the 200 meter dash in 24.01 seconds and in 16th place in the 500 meter run with a mark of 1:13.35.

The other two Regis top-10 finishes took place in the throwing events, starting with a ninth place finish by senior Daniel LaFlamme (Watertown, Conn.) in the weight throw with a top mark of 13.66 meters (44' 9.75"). Frank Pelleteri (Freeport, Maine) finished in ninth place in the shot put with his personal best collegiate mark of 13.16 meters (43' 2.25").

In the 5000 meter run, Shane Romanchick (Trumbull, Conn.) posted a time of 17:23.95, while Gustavo Novelle-Ruddy (Boston, Mass.) completed his first collegiate track event in 18:26.24. Besides Pelleteri, who finished in 28th place in the weight throw at 10.43 meters (34' 2.75"), Cole Anderson (Falmouth, Maine) also competed in both throwing events, finishing in a tie for 20th place in the shot put at 12.19 meters (40') and in 29th place in the weight throw at 10.22 meters (33' 6.5").

Regis will head north for the Plymouth State Classic in Plymouth, N.H., next Saturday, Dec. 8, before taking a month off for fall semester finals and the holiday break.
