WINTHROP, Mass. - Junior thrower Daniel LaFlamme (Watertown, Conn.) and sophomore thrower ChiChi Akanegbu (North Easton, Mass.) of the Regis (Mass.) track & field teams have been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's and women's track & field Athletes of the Week. The announcement came from the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Before the Regis Spring Classic was cut short by snow on Friday, LaFlamme won the men’s shot put with a throw of 12.77, while Akanegbu won the women's hammer throw with a throw of 44.20 meters.
The pair are the first ever recipients of GNAC weekly awards in the sport of track and field. The conference is in its first season sponsoring men's and women's track & field, and the Pride will host the first GNAC Track & Field Championships at Regis Stadium on Sunday, April 29.
LaFlamme, Akanegbu, and the rest of the Pride men's and women's track & field teams will return to action on Saturday, traveling to Fitchburg State for the Eric Loeschner Invitational.
