Track & Field Competes in Final Day of New England Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - A new school record in the women's 4x400 meter relay highlighted a strong final day for the Regis (Mass.) men's and women's track & field team's at the New England NCAA Division III Championships.

Junior Cassandra Froio (Tewksbury, Mass.), sophomore Bernice Boateng (Danielson, Conn.), and freshmen Payton Fitzgerald (Danielson, Conn.) and Abby Flaherty (Millbury, Mass.) teamed up for the school record time, placing 15th in the race with a time of 4:17.22.

Junior Fatima St. Hilaire (Danvers, Mass.) joined Froio, Boateng, and Fitzgerald on the track in the 4x100 relay, as the group finished 13th with a time of 52.09.

A handful of Pride throwers also competed on the day, led by a quartet in the women's shot put. Sophomore ChiChi Akanegbu (North Easton, Mass.) led the way with a throw of 11.79 meters for an eighth place finish. Junior Liz Ksepka (Calais, Vt.) finished right behind Akanegbu in ninth, with senior Kate Cowden (Wilmington, Mass.) placing 11th and junior Elliana Boebel (Bedford, Mass.) placing 15th.

The shot put was one of two events that Akanegbu took part in on Saturday, as she placed 11th in the women's hammer throw with a distance of 44.89 meters.

On the men's side, senior Fred Mathieu (Miami, Fla.) took part in the 400 meter dash. He placed 17th, running a time of 50.86.
