PR’s and New England Qualifiers Highlight Track and Field at Penmen Relays

MANCHESTER, N.H.Fred Mathieu (Miami, Fla.) and Elliana Boebel (Bedford, Mass.) both qualified for the New England Outdoor Track and Field Championships to highlight a successful outing for the Regis (Mass.) track and field teams at the Penmen Relays hosted by Southern New Hampshire University at Penmen Stadium. Overall, the men placed sixth out of 16 schools, with the women finishing ninth out of 14 entries.

Mathieu's personal best and New England qualifying time came in the 400 meter dash where he placed third with a time of 50.93 seconds. Boebel punched her ticket in the shot put with a throw of 11.04 meters, also a personal best. 

The men's side featured a trio of Regis record-setting performances. In winning the discus, Cole Anderson (Falmouth, Maine) set a new school record with a throw of 40.00 meters and Jovan Sematimba (Burlington, Mass.) ran the mile in 4:45.36 to also set a school record. Taylor Garner (Richmond, Vt.) added a record-setting silver throw in the hammer with Daniel LaFlamme (Watertown, Conn.) placing fourth (38.82), Anderson placing fifth and Frank Pelleteri (Freeport, Maine) eighth (32.95m) for four top 10 marks in the event.

The women's side also showcased strong individual performances. Fatima St. Hilaire (Davers, Mass.) had a pair of top 10 finishes most notably her bronze-winning distance of 5.35 meters in the long jump. Hilaire also placed 10thin the 100 meter (13.77) with Cassie Froio (Tewksbury, Mass.) placing 12th(13.90) and Payton Fitgerald (Danielson, Conn.) 19th(14.30) for three top 20 times in the event.

In women's throws, Boebel's New England qualifying toss was coupled by ChiChi Akanegbu (North Easton, Mass.) placing fourth (11.37m) and Liz Kspeka (Calais, Vt.) fifth (11.27m). Kate Cowden (Wilmington, Mass.) had the top throws place of the day for the Pride, placing second in the discus with a distance of 36.39 meters.

Both squads are back in action next Saturday, Apr. 21 at the Sean Collier Invitational hosted by MIT.
