Track and Field Closes Indoor Season With Numerous Personal Best Marks

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) track and field teams put a bookend on the 2017-18 indoor season, posting seven personal bests at the USATF New England Indoor Championships Sunday at Gordon Track.

The men's side saw the season culminate with JJ Pederson (Milford, Conn.) becoming the fourth runner to break the previous school record heading into this season. Hank Jean-Jacques (Fairfield, Conn.) led the way with personal best times in both the 60 meter dash (7.71) and 200 meter dash (24.20). Fred Mathieu (Miami, Fla.) competed in the 200 meter as well, posting a time of 7.38 seconds. Sean Toomey (Salem, N.H.) won his heat in the 800 meter with a personal best time of 2:04.22, eight seconds faster than his previous high mark.

Jovan Sematimba (Burlington, Mass.) and Pederson set new personal best times in the mile run. Sematimba ran the race in 4:38.83 minutes with Pederson finishing in 4:39.78 minutes.

A trio of Pride athletes competed in the men's throws competitions with a pair of top 5 finishes. Frank Pelleteri (Freeport, Maine) threw 12.72 meters in the shot put which was good for a silver finish and Dan LaFlamme (Watertown, Conn.) placed fifth in the weight throw competition with a 13.50 meter mark. Taylor Garner (Richmond, Vt.) cracked the top 10 in the weight throw as well, throwing a personal best 12.49 meters.

The women's throwers had quite a day as well, as four Pride members cracked the top 10 in the weight throw. ChiChi Akanegbu (North Easton, Mass.) won the women's shot put (11.36 meters) by a considerable distance and added a 6th-place finish in the weight throw (13.63 meters).

Liz Ksepka (Calais, Vt.) and Elliana Boebel (Bedford, Mass.) also posted top 10 finishes in both events. Ksepka won bronze in the shot (10.76 meters) and placed eighth in the weight throw (12.65 meters). Boebel placed ninth in the shot (8.60 meters) and 10th in the weight throw (11.71 meters). Elisabeth Cooke (East Longmeadow, Mass.) recorded a distance of 10.60 meters in the shot good for fifth place while coming in 11th in the weight throw with a toss of 11.05 meters.

In women's sprints, Cassie Froio (Tewskbury, Mass.), like Jean-Jacques for the men, posted personal bests in the 60 meter dash (8.41) and 200 meter dash (29.14). Froio's 200 time placed her 13th overall.
