Pride Competes in Fitchburg State's Eric Loeschner Memorial Invitational

FITCHBURG, Mass. - A pair of school records fell on Saturday afternoon as the Regis (Mass.) men's and women's track & field competed at the Eric Loeschner Memorial Invitational at Fitchburg State University.

Freshmen ChiChi Akanegbu (North Easton, Mass.) and Bernice Boateng (Danielson, Conn.) both broke program records on the afternoon, as Akanegbu placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 11.58 meters, while Boateng's 27.44 time in the 200 meter dash broke a 19-year-old school record.

Akanegbu was not the Pride's only strong performance in the shot put. Junior Kate Cowden (Wilmington, Mass.) finished right behind her in fifth place, while freshman Liz Ksepka (Calais, Vt.) finished in eighth with a throw of 10.25 meters and Elliana Boebel finished in ninth at 10.15 meters. Cowden won the discus throw on the day, with a throw of 35.49 meters. Freshman Elisabeth Cooke (East Longmeadow, Mass.) set a personal best with a throw of 31.97 meters for a third place finish.

Boateng's fourth place finish in the 200 meter dash was followed up by a second place finish in the 100 meter dash, with a time of 13.17. Sophomore Keegan Duguay (Watertown, Mass.) and freshman Maddie Boucias (Buckland, Mass.) each finished third in their respective events on the day, the 100 meter hurdles and the 1500 meter run.

On the men's side, senior captain Matt Norton (Weymouth, Mass.) placed 11th overall in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:22.91. Following close behind him was sophomore Kyle Gillen-Hughes (Reading, Mass.), who finished in 15th place.
