Matt Malone Competes In New England Indoor Track and Field Championships

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Kate Cowden (Wilmington, Mass.) set a new program record in the women's shot put, recording a throw of 11.82 meters to highlight the Regis (Mass.) women's track and field team at the 2017 NCAA DIII New England Indoor Track and Field Championships, Saturday at the Johnson Athletic Center.

In nearby Medford, Matt Malone (West Roxbury, Mass.) competed in the Men's New England Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Tufts University at the Gantcher Center. In his return to the Championships, he ran a time of 9.35 (22nd) in the 60 meter hurdles.

Cowden's toss broke her previously owned record and earned her all-New England honors with an eighth-place finish. Also in the throws competition, freshman ChiChi Akanegbu (North Easton, Mass.) made her postseason debut with an 11.04-meter toss in the shot put.

Keegan Duguay (Watertown, Mass.) returned for her second year and placed 14th in the 60-meter hurdles (9.69), three places ahead of her original seed.

Both teams return to action on Sunday for their final competition of the indoor season, taking part in the USATF-New England Track & Field Championship hosted at Harvard University.
