Norton, Boateng Highlight Track & Field at Panther Invitational

PLYMOUTH, Mass. - Matt Norton (Weymouth, Mass.) won the men's 800 meter, Bernice Boateng (Danielson, Conn.) placed first in the 60 meter dash to pace the Regis (Mass.) men's and women's track and field teams at the Panther Invitational Saturday hosted by Plymouth State.

Fred Mathieu (Miami, Fla.) and Matt Malone (West Roxbury, Mass.) also had solid performances in the men's competition where the Pride finished fourth in the overall team standings. Mathieu placed second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.34 and fifth in the 60 meter dash at 7.45. Malone had a second-place finish in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.83.

The men's field events saw Dan LaFlamme (Watertown, Conn.) and Taylor Garner (Richmond, Vt.) both have third-place finishes in the shot put (12.17) and weight throw (12.08), respectively.

Boateng and Ahriyan Brown of Eastern Connecticut both crossed the tape in 8.37 seconds but Boateng won on the tiebreaker. The Pride had a handful of other solid performances on the women's side. Keegan Dugay (Watertown, Mass.) was narrowly edged by Alanna Murphy of Southern New Hampshire in finishing second in the 60 meter dash (3:11:14.34). Megan Bubello finished 4th in the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:33.47.

ChiChi Akanegbu (North Easton, Mass.) placed third in the women's shot put with a throw of 11.02 meters and Jennifer Marra (Groveland, Mass.) put up a personal best throw of 10.58 meters. The Pride finished fifth in the women's team standings.

Regis next competes Saturday, Jan. 28 at the Tufts Stampede Invitational. First events start at 10:00 a.m.
