Men and Women's Track & Field Competes in Reggie Poyau Invitational

WALTHAM, Mass. - A handful of Regis (Mass.) men's and women's track & field program records fell on Saturday at the Reggie Poyau Invitational hosted by Brandeis University. The meet was the Pride's first in nearly a month and a half.

On the women's side, junior Kate Cowden (Wilmington, Mass.) placed first in the shot put with a new school record throw and DIII New England qualifier of 11.19 meters. Freshman ChiChi Akanegbu (North Easton, Mass.) placed second in the shot put with a throw of 11.08 meters, which qualified her for the DIII New England Championships as well. Sophomore Keegan Duguay (Watertown, Mass.) broke her own school record in the 55m hurdles with a time of 9.11, placing fifth overall. Freshman Bernice Boateng (Danielson, Conn.) broke the school record in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.75, while classmate Megan Bubello (Framingham, Mass.) placed sixth in the 600 meter dash with a time of 1:54.75.

For the men, Taylor Garner (Richmond, Vt.) placed first in the men's weight throw and broke his own school record with a throw of 12.93 meters. Daniel LaFlamme (Watertown, Conn.) placed second in the men's shot put with a new personal best throw of 12.54 meters. Sophomore Matthew Malone (West Roxbury, Mass.) broke his own school record in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.12, placing 4th overall. Freshman Jovan Sematimba (Burlington, Mass.) broke the school record in the 3,000 meter with a time of 9:33.42. Freshman Nick Sahagian (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) followed close behind with a time of 9:46.53. Matt Norton (Weymouth, Mass.) finished sixth in the 800 meter with a time of 2:06.26.

Both teams will be back in action next weekend at the Panther Invitational at Plymouth State University. The first events of the meet begin at 11:00 a.m.
