Johnny Pallotta Named GNAC Men’s Tennis Player of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – After winning in both singles and doubles last Thursday against Roger Williams, sophomore Johnny Pallotta (Bay Shore, N.Y.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Tennis Player of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

Against the Hawks at the International Tennis Hall of Fame, Pallotta first joined with Nolan Bebarta (Danville, Calif.) in the number one doubles position. The twosome scored Regis' first point of the match by defeating their opponents in a tiebreaker.

At number three singles, Pallotta picked up the Pride's second point of the contest as he won the first set, forced the second set to a tiebreaker, and then rebounded from losing that tiebreaker to take the super-tiebreaker, 10-8, to clinch the match.

Pallotta earned his fifth doubles victory of the 2018-19 season and improved his overall singles record to 7-4. In the third position in the singles lineup, Pallotta is 5-1 so far this year, including straight-set victories over players from Saint Michael's College, Salve Regina, UMass Boston, and Piedmont College.

This is the second time Pallotta has received weekly honors from the GNAC during his collegiate career. On April 30, 2018, he was named both Player and Rookie of the Week after going 4-0 in singles and doubles, including two victories over Johnson & Wales in the semifinals of the 2018 GNAC Men's Tennis Tournament.

Regis College, currently 6-6 overall, heads to Worcester to face Clark University Wednesday, March 20, starting at 3:30 p.m. The Pride open their conference season Saturday, March 23, against preseason GNAC North favorite Eastern Nazarene in Quincy, Mass., beginning at 1 p.m.
