Men’s Tennis Back on Winning Track

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Regis College men's tennis team earned its first victory of the spring season Tuesday evening, defeating King's College 8-1 in a collegiate dual match at the Oak Street Park Community Center.

The Pride swept the doubles sets, starting at second doubles as Sebastian Torres (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Owen Pelissier (Hingham, Mass.) earned an 8-1 victory. The other two contests were close, but Regis was able to win both to open a 3-0 advantage heading into singles.

Pelissier did not lose a game in winning his match at number six singles, putting the Pride on the brink of clinching the overall contest. Nolan Bebarta (Danville, Calif.) accomplished that task with a straight-set victory at number two singles, with Torres completing his number one singles match in straight sets right after Bebarta.

King's (2-4) picked up its only point at number three singles, but Regis was able to earn the final two points, starting at number four singles with a straight-set victory by Evan Russell (East Wareham, Mass.). Matt DaRosso (Yonkers, N.Y.) needed extra games to win the first set and a tiebreaker to take the second set at number five singles.

Regis (6-3) is off until Thursday, March 7, facing the Concordia College Cobbers from Minnesota starting at 10 a.m.
