PREVIEW: Men's Tennis Seeks First GNAC Title, NCAA Appearance

WESTON, Mass. – After an undefeated run (3-0) through its first season in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference and a tournament semifinal win, the Regis (Mass.) men’s tennis team with travel to New Jersey to face defending champion Ramapo College Saturday, May 5 in the GNAC Tournament final with an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament on the line.

The Pride emerged as the North Division’s representative in the title match after winning its three conference matches and beating Johnson & Wales (RI) in the GNAC Tournament semifinal this past Saturday, Apr. 28 at the Regis Tennis Center. JWU won the North Division last season before falling to Ramapo in the final.

Regis (14-5) and Ramapo (10-6), the South Division champion, seemed to be on a collision course to play for the title, both entering the season as the favorites to win their respective divisions. They did just that, entering as No. 1 seeds and taking care of business in the tourney semifinals. Topping the Roadrunners will be challenging to say the least. Ramapo has dominated the GNAC since joining the conference in 2013 and is seeking its sixth straight league title.

Much like the Roadrunners, the Pride is also seeking a sixth straight league title after its own dominant run through the New England Collegiate Conference. And also like Ramapo, Regis has never lost a regular season conference match. While the similarities exist, the familiarity does not. The match marks the first meeting between the two programs as the regular season schedule was exclusively set within the division.

The showdown gets underway at 2:00 p.m. in Mahwah, N.J. at the Athletic Center.
