WESTON, Mass. – The Regis (Mass.) Department of Athletics has announced the hiring of Andy White as head men’s and women’s tennis coach of Regis, a Catholic University in Greater Boston.
The announcement came from Regis Dean of Athletics Pam Roecker. “I am thrilled that Coach White is going to take over the reins of our highly successful men’s and women’s tennis teams. He has been instrumental in building the championship foundation starting as a player and team captain, and has been an integral part of every aspect of these comprehensive and competitive programs over the last several years as an assistant. Coach White is going to bring the same passion and enthusiasm he has demonstrated daily to his new position of head coach and we are excited for the future under his direction.”
White, originally from Bozeman, Montana, spent his last two years as the assistant coach for the Pride. He helped guide the men’s program to a combined 31-11 record over two seasons, while the women were a combined 27-7. Both programs won New England Collegiate Conference championships during the 2016-17 academic year in White’s first season as a full-time assistant coach. The past season, White helped guide the men’s team to the championship match of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference.
“I am deeply humbled and honored to become the next head men’s and women’s tennis coach at Regis,” said White, a four-year team captain for the Pride. “I feel very blessed to continue working at Regis because of its great balance between a good brand of tennis, talented players, and commitment to academic excellence for its student-athletes, all the reason I wanted to stay at this remarkable place. The direction of the program under Coach Ciarleglio, along with the leadership and the vision of our athletic administration, make this a tremendous opportunity."
White was a four-year member of the Regis men’s tennis program from 2010-2014. He was twice named to the First Team All-NECC in singles, as well as to the NECC All-Tournament Team in doubles. He currently ranks in the program’s top 10 in career doubles (45) and singles (34) wins.
White played his entire career under John Ciarleglio who retired this May after nine years at the helm of both programs. “It is absolutely fantastic Andy will head up Regis men’s and women’s tennis,” said Ciarleglio. “Watching his growth as a player and team captain, I knew his career goal was to coach collegiately and thought how great it would be if he could become the Regis coach someday. With Andy at the helm, I am confident in the continued success of Regis tennis!”
Prior to his time as the Pride’s graduate assistant, White was a volunteer assistant coach at Regis during the 2014-2015 season. He was also a facilities assistant at Montana State University, and has been a tennis instructor at Wayland’s Longfellow Health Club and Riverside Country Club in Bozeman, Montana.
