Men's Tennis Turns Back Wentworth 5-4

WESTON, Mass. - Playing 11 players across doubles and singles, the Regis (Mass.) men's tennis team led after doubles and won three of the first four results in singles to secure a 5-4 win over Wentworth Monday at the Regis Tennis Center.

The Pride (4-1) assured itself of the lead heading into singles after wins on the two and three doubles courts. Owen Pelissier (Hingham, Mass.) and Tim Miller (North Attleboro) got the Pride's first point after topping the Leopard pair of Jeff Tocco (Plymouth, Mass.) and Seng Ly (Lynn, Mass.) 8-6 at the two. Kyle Dugat (Houston, Texas) and Evan Russell (East Wareham, Mass.) then downed Tristan Maus (Mansfield, Mass.) and Mun Chet (Braintree, Mass.) at the three 8-4, but Wentworth kept itself in the hunt after an 8-5 win on the No. 1 court.

Regis won the match by just a point but clinched the victory early with wins in three of the first four singles finishes. Chris Harrow (North Reading, Mass.) put the Pride up 3-1, blanking Tocco 6-0, 6-0 at first singles. Cam Charbonneau's (Guilford, Mass.) result at the four was next to follow, a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Alex Mularski (Auburn, Mass.) before the match was clinched two finishes later on the No. 2 court. Luke Horton (Bass Harbor, Maine) topped Tyler Hall (Framingham, Mass.) in straight sets 6-2, 7-5.

With the result in hand, Wentworth (0-1) claimed two wins in exciting fashion. Johnny Pallotta (Bay Shore, N.Y.) lost in a first-set tiebreak for the Pride but rallied to push the match to a third set against Ly. Ly would top Pallotta in the third-set pro set for a 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 10-8 win. The final match of the day saw Wentworth's Jarrett North (Roanoke, Texas) rally for a 4-6, 6-2, 11-9 win at third singles over Mitchell Weiner (Plano, Texas).

Regis next takes the court this Thursday, Oct. 5 for a 3:30 p.m. match at UMass-Dartmouth. Wentworth has nearly two weeks off before visiting Bridgewater State on Wednesday, Mar. 14.
