PRIDE TENNIS HEAD COACH HONORED BY USPTA

Weston, Mass.—The United States Professional Tennis Association awarded Regis College Tennis Head coach John Ciarleglio the designation of 2011 Tennis Pro of the Year for the New England Area.

John Ciarleglio, III, USPTA, PTR, was appointed as the first Men’s Tennis Coach in May of 2008 and in April 2010 became the Head Coach of both the Regis men’s and women’s tennis programs.  Coach Ciarleglio began playing tennis at age 30, learning by taking private lessons, participating in weekly clinics and other tennis training opportunities.  He attended the adult camp at the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy, Bradenton, FL, in December 1985. 

He plays once or twice per week and has done so for over 25 years.  His competitive experience has included playing doubles for several men’s teams in the CMITA and USTA leagues.  He is an active member of the United States Professional Tennis Association, regularly attending conferences and chairing the Manufacturer’s Committee of the USPTA New England Division for 2008 through 2010.  He was recently selected as the Regional Pro for 2011.  He also joined the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) in June 2011.

As a teaching Pro at the Longfellow Club in Wayland, MA since 2002, Coach Ciarleglio has worked with all ages, genders and skill levels of players, teaching private lessons as well as organizing and running several weekly clinics.  He has coached several high school aged juniors helping them compete successfully in USTA tournaments and on their high school teams.

In 2006/07 he coached the Longfellow Men’s C team to the championship of the Central Mass Indoor Tennis Association.  For the 07/08 and 08/09 seasons, both of Longfellow’s men’s teams advanced to the CMITA semifinals.  In 2008, the Longfellow men’s USTA 3.5 team made it to the District Championships.  For 2009/2010, the Men’s C Team again made it to the league playoffs.

His wife Pat and two sons, John and Tom also play tennis.  They played USTA junior tournaments and older son John played four years of varsity tennis in both high school and college.  John currently is a tennis pro for Peter Burwash International, which operates the tennis programs for high-end resorts around the world and Tom is a junior at Savannah College of Art and Design, majoring in Performing Arts.  He has begun playing again, participating in intramural tennis.

Coach Ciarleglio received a BS in Business Administration from the University of Bridgeport and an MBA with a concentration in Finance and Investments from the University of Connecticut.
