REGIS COLLEGE WINS FIRST MATCH OF SEASON

PAXTON, Mass. (03.26.11) – The Pride of Regis College held off a furious comeback by the AMCATS, taking their first TCCC victory of the season 5-4. The Pride improve to 1-7 on the year and 1-1 in conference, while the AMCATS fall to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the TCCC.

David Bourget (Winter Park, Fla.) got the AMCATS off to a quick start, taking his singles match by a score of 0-6, 6-2, 6-2. Adam Williamson (Spencer, Mass.) followed with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep to give the AMCATS the 2-0 lead.

The Pride regrouped and rattled off four straight wins in singles play to take a 4-2 lead. Andy White (Bozeman, Mont.), Matthew Smolko (Pelham, N.H.), Mouhamed Diallo (Boston, Mass.), and Jonathan Dost (Taunton, Mass.) all scored convincing wins in singles play for the Pride.

Doubles play started with two close fought victories for the AMCATS to tie the score. The combination of Bourget and Williams defeated Jeff Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) and Andy White by a score of 9-8. Jesus Torres (Southbridge, Mass.) and Mike Dandurand (Warwick, RI) followed that up with an 8-6 victory, leaving the last match of the day to decide the victory. The combination of Dost and Diallo proved to be too much for the AMCATS, taking the 8-4 victory home the Pride.

The Pride will return to action Tuesday when they take on WNEC at home in a TCCC matchup. The AMCATS will look to bounce back when they take on Wheelock at home tomorrow in a non-conference match.
