GianCarlos Banrey Named GNAC Male Swim Athlete of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – After earning three of Regis' five events victories during its dual meet against Bridgewater State Saturday, sophomore GianCarlos Banrey (Roslindale, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Men's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

Banrey won three individual events to lead the Pride, finishing first in the 50 backstroke by over three seconds with a time of 26.15 seconds, in the 100 butterfly in 55.19 seconds as he held on for a 3/10ths of a second margin of victory, and in the 50 butterfly in 23.80 seconds.

Banrey also posted the fastest 50 fly split of 23.47 seconds in the 200 medley relay, as he joined with Robert Wood (Cathedral City, Calif.), Brendan Pike (Weymouth, Mass.), and Michael Case (Watertown, Mass.) to finish second in 1:47.90.

This is Banrey's third career Athlete of the Week honor and his eighth GNAC weekly award overall, as he received Rookie of the Week recognition five times during the 2018-19 campaign. The Regis men have been represented with at least one weekly award in each of the first three conference reports.

The Regis College swimming and diving teams head to the Bennett Center in Wenham, Mass., for a dual meet against Gordon College Saturday, Nov. 2, starting at 1 p.m.
