Men’s Swim Team Falls in Home Opener

WESTON, Mass. – The depth of Bridgewater State proved to be too much for Regis College, as the Bears defeated the Pride in a men's collegiate swimming and diving dual meet, 183-91, Saturday at the Regis Aquatics Center.

GianCarlos Banrey (Roslindale, Mass.) won three individual events to lead the Pride, finishing first in the 50 backstroke by over three seconds with a time of 26.15 seconds, in the 100 butterfly in 55.19 seconds as he held on for a 3/10ths of a second margin of victory, and in the 50 butterfly in 23.80 seconds.

Banrey also posted the fastest 50 fly split of 23.47 seconds in the 200 medley relay, as he joined with Robert Wood (Cathedral City, Calif.), Brendan Pike (Weymouth, Mass.), and Michael Case (Watertown, Mass.) to finish second in 1:47.90.

Wood won the 200 freestyle by over two seconds with a time of 1:53.94, plus he finished second in the 100 backstroke in 1:02.83 and in the 100 individual medley in 1:01.65. Pike finished second in both the 50 breaststroke in 32.06 seconds and in the 100 freestyle in 53.87 seconds, plus he ended up third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.44.

Grant Kollien (Acton, Mass.) picked up Regis' other event victory, touching the wall first in the 1000 freestyle by over nine seconds with a time of 11:15.22. Kollien also finished second in the 50 freestyle in 25.17 seconds, just ahead of Case in third place in 25.24 seconds, and in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:38.79.

Regis (1-1) heads to Gordon College to face the Fighting Scots next Saturday, Nov. 2, starting at 1 p.m. The next home meet for the Pride is Friday night, Nov. 22, against conference rival Saint Joseph's College beginning at 6 p.m.
