Pride Swim & Dive Teams Off to Strong Start at NEISDA Meet

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Regis College swimming and diving teams started strong at the 2019 New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships, as the meet opened Thursday night at the Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center on the campus of MIT.

In the only event of the session, the 800 freestyle relay, the Regis women's quartet of Gloria Sutton (Suffield, Conn.), Thalia Bowie (Lexington, Mass.), Katherine Mariano (Newton, Mass.), and Kyleigh Boatwright (Roseville, Calif.) finished in ninth place with a time of 8:23.48, exactly 13 seconds faster than the same foursome posted at the GNAC Championships Feb. 3.

On the men's side, the combination of Grant Kollien (Acton, Mass.), Brendan Pike (Weymouth, Mass.), Connor Schwarze (Melrose, Mass.), and Joshua Unas (Santa Clarita, Calif.) posted a time of 7:28.36 to finish in seventh place. The Pride cut 40.36 seconds off the previous top time of the season, set in the regular season finale against Elms Jan. 19.

The meet kicks into full gear Friday, Feb. 22, with the first of three full days of action. The first session of the day begins at 10 a.m. and features preliminary races in the 200 freestyle relay, 500 freestyle, 100 butterfly, 50 breaststroke, 200 backstroke, 50 freestyle, 200 individual medley, and 400 medley relay. The preliminaries of the one-meter diving event will take place at 2:30 p.m., followed by the finals of the eight swimming events starting at 6 p.m.
