Regis Men Win Two Titles Sunday at GNAC Swim & Dive Championships

BOSTON – Joshua Unas (Santa Clarita, Calif.) earned his third individual event conference title and GianCarlos Banrey (Roslindale, Mass.) picked up his second individual league title Sunday as the Regis College men's team finished second at the 2019 Great Northeast Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, hosted by Simmons University at the Holmes Sports Center Natatorium.

Unas won the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:21.83 in the afternoon final, going wire-to-wire as he finished 0.83 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. That completed a sweep of the breaststroke events for Unas, as he won the 50 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke Saturday.

Banrey, the GNAC champion in the 100 butterfly Saturday, first posted the fastest time in the 50 butterfly morning preliminary at 23.74 seconds. In the afternoon, he touched the wall 1.44 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher with a time of 23.23 seconds.

Grant Kollien (Acton, Mass.) finished second in the 200 freestyle, cutting over three seconds off his preliminary time of 1:56.73 with a mark in the final of 1:53.42.

Kevin Dugue (Roslindale, Mass.) placed high in two events Sunday, starting with a fourth-place finish in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.03. Dugue then finished third in the 50 backstroke with a time of 27.13 seconds in the final, while Connor Schwarze (Melrose, Mass.) ended up in sixth place in 29.88 seconds.

Unas, Schwarze, Noah Toumayan-Miller (Natick, Mass.), and Kollien capped the meet with a second-place finish in the 800 freestyle relay in a total time of 8:11.39. The Pride finished the overall championships with 171 points, second behind GNAC champion Norwich with 317 points.

The Regis men's swimming and diving team will prepare for the NEISDA Championships Feb. 21-24 at MIT in Cambridge, Mass.
