Joshua Unas Repeats as GNAC Male Swimmer of Week

WINTHROP, Mass. – After leading the Regis College men's swimming team to a dual meet victory over Elms College Saturday, senior Joshua Unas (Santa Clarita, Calif.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week, announced Monday by the league office.

In the final dual meet of his collegiate career, Unas began the day by anchoring the 200 medley relay to a convincing victory by almost 28 seconds as the relay squad posted a total time of 1:51.95. Unas then won the 50 breaststroke in 30.03 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 1:06.68. Unas also anchored the 800 freestyle relay as the squad posted a winning time of 8:08.72, establishing a new pool record in the process.

Heading into the GNAC Championships at the start of February, Unas is second in the conference in the 50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke, and 200 individual medley as well as third in both the 200 breaststroke and 100 individual medley. In addition, he is in the top 10 in the league performance lists in four freestyle events, and he has helped the Pride to top-two times in four different relays.

This is the second straight week Unas has received the weekly award from the GNAC as well as the third time in the last four eligible weeks and the fourth time overall this season.

The 2019 GNAC Swimming and Diving Championships will begin Friday, Feb. 1, at Simmons' Holmes Sports Center in Boston at 6:30 p.m. with the 200 freestyle relay, the 1000 freestyle, and the 200 medley relay.
