Swimming & Diving Competes in Day Three of New England Championships

KINGSTON, R.I. - Sophomore Elisabeth McQuaid (Marlborough, Mass.) and senior Nick Rainville (Reading, Mass.) both finished in the top three of their respective events on Saturday as the Regis (Mass.) men's and women's swimming & diving teams competed in day three of the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association Championships at the University of Rhode Island.

McQuaid was the second place finisher in the 1m diving competition with 365.20 points, finishing second to Plymouth State's Casey Allaire. Rainville, who on Friday was crowned the New England Champion in the 100 yard butterfly, picked up a third place finish on Saturday in the 50 yard butterfly with a time of 23.69.

The day opened up with both the men's and women's teams picking up top ten finishes to the 200 yard medley relay. The men's relay team, consisting of Rainvile, Paul Brennan (Rumford, R.I.), Joshua Unas (Santa Clarita, Calif.), and Connor Schwarze (Melrose, Mass.) finished seventh with a time of 1:44.55. The women's team of Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass.), Amy Collins (Hanson, Mass.), Jessica Zernitsky (Newton, Mass.), and Ashlyn DeRoche (North Reading, Mass.) finished in 10th place.

On the women's side of the 50 yard butterfly, Zernitsky won the "B" final with a time of 27.66 for a ninth place finish. Teammate Sarah Leonard (Brockton, Mass.) did the exact same thing in the 100 yard backstroke, winning the "B" final with a time of 1:01.66. Higgins finished sixth in the same event with a time of 1:01.38.

Unas represented Regis in the 100 breaststroke final and finished in sixth place with a time of 1:02.33, while Brennan and Schwarze finished 11th and 12 respectively in the 200 yard freestyle.

Mackenzie Webber of Roger Williams University was the winner of the women's 50 yard butterfly on the evening. Webber is the daughter of Pride women's soccer coach Michael Webber.

After three days of competition, the Pride men currently find themselves in sixth place overall out of 12 teams, while the women are in ninth place out of 20 entering the final day on Sunday.
