Swimming & Diving Splits With Bridgewater State, Husson On Senior Day

WESTON, Mass. – The Regis (Mass.) men's and women's swimming & diving teams both earned a split, each topping Husson but falling to Bridgewater State in tri-meet action on Senior Day, Saturday at Regis Pool. The Pride men topped the Eagles 143.5-64.5 and fell to the Bears 179-87 with the women's team winning 196-66 and falling 153-131.

Nick Rainville (Reading, Mass.) won a trio of events for the men. He finished first in the 100 butterfly (54.14) and 100 freestyle (49.44) and won the 200 free relay (1:35.81) with teammates Joshua Unas (Santa Clarita, Calif.), Connor Schwarze (Melrose, Mass.) and Michael Bruno (Winthrop, Mass.). He also added a second place finish in the 50 free with a time of 22.71. Grant Kollien (Acton, Mass.) continued his excellence in the 1650 free, winning the race with a time of 18.08.07.

The women's side saw a handful of solid performances. Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass.) won both the 50 butterfly (28.74) and 100 individual medley (1:06.50) and placed second behind teammate Sarah Leonard (Brockton, Mass.) (1:04.41) in the 100 backstroke (1:05.43). The top finish by Leonard was her lone win of the day but she also turned in silver finishes in the 200 freestyle (2:09.01) and the 50 free (29.93).

Elisabeth McQuaid (Marlborough, Mass.) won a pair of 1-meter dive competitions for the Pride with Jennifer Marra (Groveland, Mass.) turning in a bronze performance in the 1-meter.

Husson did the double, sweeping both the men's and women's competitions.

Prior to the meet, the Pride honored seniors Ashlyn DeRoche, Jessica Higgins, Lawrence Reynolds, Nick Rainville, Michael Bruno and Ryan Tinney for their contributions to Regis swimming.

With the regular season in the rearview mirror, both teams look toward the New England Championships hosted by the University of Rhode Island Feb. 15-18.
