Men’s and Women’s Swimming Dominant In Dual-Meet Wins At Elms

CHICOPEE, Mass. - The Regis (Mass.) men's and women's swimming teams hit the pool on Saturday at the short course meters pool at Elms, posting two solid wins as the men's team topped the Blazers 139-101 with the women winning 151-79.

The women's competition saw the Pride win 13 races paced by three first-place finishes from Jessica Zernitsky (Newton, Mass.) and Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass.). Zernitsky teamed up to win the 200 medley relay (2:19.11) with Sarah Leonard (Brockton, Mass.), Ashlyn DeRoche (North Reading, Mass.) and Amy Collins (Hanson, Mass.), then later won gold in the 50 fly (33.07) and 50 freestyle (29.04).

Higgins won the 200 backstroke (2:39.48), the 100 backstroke (1:14.37) and later the 400 freestyle race with a time of 5:19.23. Collins won the 100 breastroke (1:32.58) along with the 200 medley relay while adding a silver finish in the 200 freestyle (2:35.23).

The men's side featured 10 top finishes led by Grant Kollien (Acton, Mass.) and Joshua Unas (Santa Clarita, Calif.) who both won gold in three events. Kollien won the 200 freestyle (2:09.81) and 100 fly (1:11.28) before winning his distance event, the 400 freestyle (4:49.24).

Unas won the 200 individual medley (2:24.66) while taking top honors in the 50 and 200 breastroke. Nick Rainville (Reading, Mass.) added a pair of top finishes of his own in the 50 free and 50 fly.

The Pride next host its first event of the new year, welcoming Bridgewater State and Husson for a tri-meet Saturday, Jan. 27 at 11:00 a.m. The Blazers play their scheduled season finale at the University of New England on Friday, Jan. 27 as well.
