Rainville, Zernitsky Highlight Swimming At Eastern Connecticut Trimatch

BRIDGWATER, Mass.Nick Rainville (Reading, Mass.) won four events, Jessica Zernitsky (Newton, Mass.) took top honors in two more but the Regis (Mass.) men's and women's swimming teams came up short in trimatch action Saturday at Eastern Connecticut State with Bridgewater State.

On the women's side the Pride were edged by BSU 132-128 and fell to Eastern Connecticut 150-110. ECSU did not compete in the men's competition which saw Regis fall to BSU 163-96.

The Pride divers also competed, traveling to BSU for a dual competition against the Bears.

Rainville had another stellar outing in the pool winning in both freestyle and butterfly events. He won the 100 free with a time of 1:50.41 then took top honors in the 100 fly, swimming the race in 53.96. He added a first place finish in the 50 fly (24.45) then joined teammates Diego Colindres (Newton, Mass.), Lawrence Reynolds (Hyde Park, Mass.) and Joshua Unas (Santa Clarita, Calif.) to take top honors in the 200 free relay (1:35.25).

Unas added a second place finish in the 50 breastroke (30.37) and Grant Kollien (Acton, Mass.) placed second in the 1000 free and second in the 200 free relay with teammates Connor Schwarze (Melrose, Mass.), Gueincy Clodimir (Pembroke Park, Fla.) and Noah Toumayan-Miller (Natick, Mass.).

On the women's side, Zernitsky's top finishes came in 100 fly (29.10) and 50 free (26.15). Jessica Higgins (Peabody, Mass.) won the 100 backstroke (1:04.23) and both teamed up with Ashlyn DeRoche (North Reading, Mass.) and Gloria Sutton (Suffield, Mass.) to win the 200 free relay in a time of 1:46.75.

Next up for the Pride is its home opener Saturday, Nov. 11 at Regis Pool. Regis welcomes Norwich and Babson for a trimatch beginning at 1:00 p.m.
