THREE MORE RECORDS FALL ON FINAL DAY OF ECAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Regis College men's swimming and diving team wrapped up the ECAC Championships on Sunday afternoon at the US Naval Academy with several more broken records as well as made some program history.

The 2014 ECAC Championships mark the first time the men's program scored points at the ECAC's, as Regis came in 12th place with 85 points. The Pride were the highest scoring Division III program at the meet, which were filled with Division I schools.

Kiet Luong (Malden, Mass.) continued his strong weekend as he finished sixth in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:52.21, breaking his own school record by 1.6 seconds and qualifying for the NCAA's. Luong is now ranked in the top 50 in the NCAA in both the 200 fly and 100 fly, ranking 43rd and 47th, respectively.

Alex Graf (Newton, Mass.) placed 22nd in the 100 free (47.57).

The 400 free relay team of Graf, Cassidy Bastinelli (Newton, Mass.), Robert Ekberg (Northbridge, Mass.), and Luong broke the school record twice on Sunday, posting a time of 3:15.70 in the prelims and following that up with a 3:13.10 mark in the finals that put them in 7th place.

Head Coach James Sweeney said, "We had an unbelievable meet from day 1 to day 3. So many more records falling, placing at finals, scoring points, we just kept getting faster as the meet went on. It is very difficult to come back and swim faster after a full shave and taper after two weeks for the New England Championships, but we did that extremely well."

"The men were very supportive of each other and their competitiveness made our team excel. Overall for both the women's and men's programs, this season was awesome. Several records on both sides were broken this season, many lifetime best times, and many program "firsts". We will only strive to do even better and to work harder next year."
