Men’s Soccer Loses Non-Conference Contest

WESTON, Mass. – Regis College lost to Pine Manor College, 3-0, Monday afternoon in a non-conference men's collegiate soccer match at Regis Stadium.

Regis created the first scoring chance of the match in the sixth minute, but a shot by Fabyanno Furbino (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) was stopped by Gator goalie Angel Pena. Two minutes later, Andree Hernandez-Garcia chipped a pass from the left side into the box, setting up Oscar Uriel Roque for a goal to put Pine Manor on top.

Pine Manor (9-2-1) continued to pressure the Pride defense, continually holding possession and creating scoring opportunities. In the 30th minute, Elmer Pineda stole the ball, dribbled up the field, and launched a low line drive shot into the lower right corner of the net, extending the Gator lead to 2-0, where it would remain at halftime.

Just over 13 minutes into the second half, Pineda dribbled into the middle of the field and found Raudel Gomez running on the left-hand side. Gomez kept the ball until he reached the box and then crossed it towards the right post, where Roque ran in and redirected the ball into the net for his second goal of the match.

The Pride had a couple chances midway through the second half to get on the board, but shots by Santiago Pedraza Novak (Bogota, Colombia) and Branden Tan (Bodrum, Turkey) sailed over the crossbar. Regis' best scoring opportunity came off a corner kick in the 78th minute, but Tan's header was corralled by Pena.

The Gators outshot the Pride, 20-10, led by Pineda and Roque with three shots apiece. Pena made three saves as he earned the shutout, while Josh Barrows (Rochester, N.Y.) tied his career high with five saves during the afternoon.

Regis (3-9, 1-5 GNAC) finishes out the regular season with five consecutive conference matches, including four contests at home starting this Wednesday, Oct. 16, against Lasell. Please note that the start time has been moved up one hour to 3 p.m.
