Pride Fall in Overtime

EAST BOSTON, Mass. – The Regis College men's soccer team fell to the Rams of Suffolk University, 2-1, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference match at James A. Sartori Stadium Saturday.

In the fifth minute, after a shot by Ken Niyonzima (Dracut, Mass.) was blocked by a Suffolk defender, the Rams made a push back up the field. Leonardo Acosta sent a pass to Sunjoon Tenorio, who fired a shot from a tight left angle that hit the near post, redirecting into the net.

With 22:43 remaining in the first half, the Pride tied the game after Branden Tan (Bodrum, Turkey) collected a loose ball in the penalty box and fired a ball into the back of the net. The match was tied 1-1 at the half.

After a scoreless second half, the game went into overtime. Just 1:35 into the first overtime period, Tenorio collected the ball in the middle. He then got around the goalkeeper and fired it into the open net.

Freddie Beckmann (Franklin, Mass.) had six saves on the day while facing eight shots, while Suffolk goalkeeper Kyle Rosa had four saves on five shots. Regis had more corner kick opportunities in the match, holding a 7-5 edge.

Suffolk (4-6-1, 3-4 GNAC) will play Mitchell College in a non-conference contest Monday, Oct. 14 before taking on GNAC foe St. Joseph (Conn.) Saturday, Oct. 19.
