Men’s Soccer Earns Key Road Victory

BOSTON, Mass. – Regis College rallied from an early deficit with three goals in the second half to defeat Emerson College, 3-1, Saturday afternoon in a non-conference men's collegiate soccer match at Rotch Field.

Down 1-0 at halftime, the Pride finally broke through in the 67th minute when Mitchell Boudreau (Swanton, Vt.) set up Zack Acciardo (Derry, N.H.) for his first career goal. Less than two minutes later, Regis pulled ahead on a goal by Branden Tan (Bodrum, Turkey), who nearly scored again in the 70th minute, but his shot hit the crossbar.

Emerson (1-2-1) almost tied the match in the 81st minute, but a shot by Luc Fougere was turned away by Pride goalie Freddie Beckmann (Franklin, Mass.). Regis maintained its offensive pressure with shots on goal by Tan and Santiago Pedraza Novak (Bogota, Colombia) in the span of two-and-a-half minutes, and then the Pride added an insurance goal with seven seconds remaining in regulation as Jared Barroso (Central Falls, R.I.) scored off an assist by Allen De Los Santos (Revere, Mass.).

Beckmann made two saves as he picked up the victory after coming in at halftime for Josh Barrows (Rochester, N.Y.), who earned one save in the first half. David Kemp made three saves as he attempted to keep Emerson in the contest.

The Pride outshot the Lions, 13-7, led by Tan with five shots. Fougere and Arturo Ruiz led Emerson with two shots apiece. Emerson's goal came when a Regis player scored an own goal in the 16th minute.

Regis (1-1) does not play again until next Saturday, Sept. 14, hosting neighboring school Babson at Regis Stadium starting at 3 p.m.
