Three Members of Pride Men’s Soccer Voted All-GNAC

WINTHROP, Mass. – After finishing with a winning overall record for the fourth straight season and qualifying for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Tournament, three members of the Regis College men's soccer team have received All-GNAC honors from a vote of the league coaches, announced Monday by the conference office.

For the fourth time in his record-setting career, Derek Triana (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) has earned all-league honors, receiving Second Team All-GNAC recognition for the second straight season. Triana, Regis's all-time leader in goals (42) and points (95), finished with six goals and one assist for 13 total points, including three goals in nine GNAC matches. He scored the game-winning goal in the season opener at Lesley as well as in the Pride's 2-1 victory over Anna Maria.

Junior midfielder Jared Barroso (Central Falls, R.I.) joins Triana as a Second Team All-GNAC honoree, also receiving the honor in consecutive years after representing Mount Ida last season. Barroso played 10 GNAC matches for the Pride, dishing out assists on both goals as Regis rallied for a 2-1 victory over Anna Maria Oct. 17. Barroso also scored a goal against Becker Oct. 13 and was a steadying force in the middle of the Regis attack throughout the season.

Third Team All-GNAC honoree Ken Niyonzima (Dracut, Mass.) emerged as a significant scoring threat for the Pride, leading the team with nine goals in 2018, the fourth-highest total in a single season by a Regis player. Seven of those goals came in conference contests, tied for third in the GNAC, including the game-winning goal in the Sept. 11 1-0 victory at Emmanuel and two goals at Rivier Oct. 10.

Regis is represented on the GNAC Men's Soccer All-Sportsmanship Team by junior defender Scott Holcomb (Natick, Mass.), chosen for his dedication to fair play within competition throughout the season. Holcomb appeared in 16 matches, including 13 starts, and helped the Pride post five shutouts during the 2018 campaign.

GNAC regular season and tournament champion Saint Joseph's College dominated the postseason awards, as eight Monks were voted First Team All-GNAC and the team took home four of the six major awards. Saint Joseph's won the GNAC Tournament Sunday to clinch the automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament and will bring a 20-0 record into that competition.

Regis concluded the 2018 season with an 8-6-2 overall record, finishing in a tie for seventh place in the GNAC standings at 4-5-2.
