Pride Men’s Soccer Scores Late to Defeat Pine Manor, 1-0

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Fabyanno Furbino (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) scored with less than five minutes remaining in regulation, and two Regis goalies combined for a shutout as the Pride defeated Pine Manor College, 1-0, Monday afternoon in a non-conference men's collegiate soccer match at Hedley Field.

As play progressed into the 86th minute without a goal, Diego Roman (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) was on target with his shot, but Gator goalkeeper Marco Valencia was able to make the save. However, the rebound was corralled by Furbino, who found the back of the net for his first goal of the season with 4:51 left on the clock.

Jesse Bonilla (Ramona, Calif.) made his 10th start of the year in net and earned three saves in the first half for the Pride, the last coming on a shot by Jose Gonzalez with just over six minutes remaining in the first half. Josh Barrows (Rochester, N.Y.) took over to start the second half and played the rest of the way to pick up the first victory of his collegiate career, standing tall in the face of an early challenge by the Gators as he made three of his five saves in the first 10 minutes of the second half.

After Furbino's goal, Pine Manor pushed to tie the match before the end of regulation, but Barrows was able to turn away a shot by Cesar Garcia with less than two minutes left in the second half. In total, the Gators outshot the Pride, 16-7, including an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal, but Bonilla, Barrows, and the Regis defense worked together for the team's third shutout of the season.

Furbino led the Pride with three total shots, including two shots on goal. Elmer Pineda paced the Gators with five total shots, featuring three shots on goal, while Jose Corrales contributed four shots in the match. Valencia was credited with four saves as he helped keep the match scoreless until the final minutes of regulation.

Regis (5-4-2, 2-4-2 GNAC) heads to Nashua, N.H., for its final regular season road match of the year at Rivier Wednesday, Oct. 10, beginning at 5 p.m. The Pride close the regular season with four consecutive home contests, starting Saturday, Oct. 13, against Becker at 3 p.m. at Regis Stadium.
