WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Despite outshooting the home team and putting together a couple of scoring opportunities in the second half, Regis College could not pull even, as St. Joseph (Conn.) held on for a 2-1 victory Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference men's soccer match at USJ Soccer Field.

St. Joseph (4-1, 1-1 GNAC) jumped on the board in the fifth minute as Daniel Castro scored his fifth goal of the season. The Blue Jays added to their lead midway through the first half when DeAnte Anderson set up Glaymer Cardona for a goal in the 26th minute.

Down 2-0 at halftime, Regis cut its deficit in half as Brendan Plasczynski (Bristol, Conn.) scored his second goal of the year in the 48th minute. The Pride had a couple of chances to tie the match as the second half went along, but shots by Sal Madera (Rocky Hill, Conn.) in the 69th minute and Derek Triana (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) in the 73rd minute were turned away by Blue Jay goalie Anes Gadun.

The Pride's final scoring chance came with three minutes remaining in regulation as Jared Barroso (Central Falls, R.I.) created a header shot, but Gadun stopped that one from going into the net for his sixth and final save of the match. Regis outshot St. Joseph, 10-6, and earned both corner kick opportunities in the second half.

Jesse Bonilla (Ramona, Calif.) played the entire match in net for the Pride, making three saves along the way. Barroso led all players with three total shots, while Cardona was the only Blue Jay with more than one shot in the match, finishing with two shots.

Regis (3-2, 1-2 GNAC) continues its stretch of road contests Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Lasell beginning at 4 p.m. and next Saturday, Sept. 22, at Saint Joseph's (Me.) starting at 5 p.m.
